Improve Your Language Skills
We are a team of professional Direct Instruction tutors located in Vaughan, Ontario. We have a solid understanding and experience of how to help struggling learners build up on language skills. Language is a precursor to reading and writing. Sometimes students turn our way for reading or writing remediation, but the initial assessment shows that language needs to be addressed first.
A number of students benefit from DI language programs. Those students might have language delays, be on the spectrum or are language learners.

Language Classes

Language for Learning (grades K-2)
Great oral communication is key to academic success and precedes reading and writing.
First, young children learn to speak. The focus of Language for Learning is oral expression. The program is designed to teach young children (pre-kindergarten to 2nd grade) the basic vocabulary, concepts and sentence forms used in typical classroom.
Students learn the words, concepts, and statements important to oral and written language. The program is suitable for ELL and learners on the spectrum, as well as those whose language is developing slower than their peers. Based on carefully integrated images, the program steadily builds on what was taught in the previous lessons and introduces new vocabulary and sentence structure.
The program is based on real life examples, abstract ideas, re-tells, repetitions, categorizing, and providing answers to direct questions and inferencing.

Language for Thinking (grades 1-3)
Language for Thinking is a logical continuation of Language for Learning. Vocabulary, sentence structure, and reasoning skills taught in this program strengthen students’ previously acquired skills and increase their performance at school and on standardized tests.
Through teacher-led lessons, students are presented with word usage, including forming contractions and excluding sentences with double negatives.
This practice makes their subsequent writing coherent and instinctive. Sequencing and retelling exercises challenge students to remember important details and thoroughly understand what they read.

Language for Writing (grades 1-3)
Language for Writing leads students toward independence as writers.
This program teaches not only writing skills, but also the vocabulary, sentence, and organizational skills that underpin good writing. Students learn how to write narratives, make precise comparisons, use specific words, summarize, retell, and proofread for punctuation, grammar, and word usage.
In short, this program is a great precursor to placing children into Expressive Writing 1.
