Reading direct instruction classes

Improve Your Reading Skills

We are a team of Direct Instruction specialists located in Vaughan, Ontario. We’ve taught hundreds of students the foundations of reading and comprehension for over a decade. Our Reading Mastery, Corrective Decoding and Corrective Comprehension classes are available 1:1 both in person and online.

Our team of skilled and empathetic tutors have taught hundreds of struggling students to break through the reading code and become great readers. At times, students in grade three and up are not reading fluently yet. There is a number of reasons to that, such as lack of attention and behavioural difficulties, learning disabilities, and generally, a limited ability to grasp a whole-word approach to reading.

Our team of Direct Instruction tutors remediates comprehension, too. We have a solid understanding of why your child might seem like a solid reader, yet has limited comprehension. We are also experts in how to intervene efficiently and to solidify your child’s comprehension skills.

Testimonials

I was referred to Read Write Think by an ABA practitioner, who worked with my child. I was looking specifically for Reading tutor, and supplementation in Math and Language. My child finished finished Gr.5 not reading (at all). I see huge progress now, after just 5-6 month with Read Write Think, my child already started to read, which is really a big milestone for us.I can’t really speak high enough about this company, as what they do is truly outstanding! Our tutor Patricia is very gentle, patient and highly skilled. My child is not always cooperative, but she found a way to work with him almost from the day 1. Any feedback and suggestions, that I may have, are immediately taken and applied in the lessons. We have both, home and center-based sessions, and my child really enjoys participating in both!Highly recommend Read Write Think services!

My 9-year-old daughter has participated in both camp programs run by Read. Write. Think. as well as a Learning Pod program to supplement her virtual elementary school curriculum. I can’t speak highly enough about how great the teachers are and what a comfortable and engaging learning environment they create for kids. Emma really enjoyed the program and looked forward to going to lessons every time. She enjoyed all subjects, including Math, English, French and Social Studies and learned so much. If you’re looking to enhance and support your kids’ school education, this is the place for you! Highly recommend!!

We were recommended Read Write Think learning Center by a friend of ours who has her kids in the center. We were looking for professional home schooling/tutoring help for our 14 year old son. When pandemic started and kids were sent home, he got very discouraged and demotivated with his school work. Realizing that the school situation would not be resolved for a long time, I went to seek help.Yuliana and I had a meeting and talked about our needs to establish the right support for our son. I am so grateful to have met her, she is so knowledgeable and experienced and compassionate. She heard my frustration and understood what we issues we are facing. She coached me on how to get started and we began our journey at Read Write Think Center. We have now been with the Center for two full terms. We are getting exactly the kind of unique and personal support my son needs. Finally, as I parent, I found comfort in fact that I am not alone in this, and there are outstanding and caring professionals like Yuliana, who care about my son and his progress as much as I do.We are super grateful for the hard work everyone does to keep us going and would recommend Yuliana and her team without a slight hesitation.

If you are looking for a personalized approach from the owner and each one of the teachers, this is the place that provides it. In addition to high level instructions including effective methodologies, the students get materials adjusted to their own progress on a weekly basis. I was impressed with the level of the feedback to the parents that allows to achieve great results in a short period of time. Very flexible to accomodate schedule changes, very experienced and friendly teachers. One pace for a variety of learning subjects. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend the Read Write Think program to anyone whose kid needs a little extra boost or serious help with their reading and writing. Our son didn't know how to read or write when he started Grade 1 (although he attended SK) and was feeling stressed about it. After a little online search we were lucky enough to find Julia, the owner of the Read Write Think program, who came to our house and did a quick assessment of our son. Julia informed us that he would catch up to his classmates by the end of the the school year, which he did much earlier.Julia paired us up with Maddie - a wonderful, patient, experienced and fun teacher who my son loves a lot. Maddie came to our house once a week for an hour and did a great job keeping our son engaged and interested, which was not an easy feat at times :).The materials the program provides are also exceptional and at the same fun (some stories made me laugh out loud).Julia, Maddie and the whole Read Write Think program are amazing! And we will continue with their services next year as well.

As a parent, my kids' learning is very important to me. Even at their young age, I know how important it is to support their needs at school and enhance it at home. That's why I'm happy to have found Read Write Think because their reading, writing, and language & spelling programs have really helped not just my kids' grades, but more importantly, their attitude towards learning through mastery of these core skills.

Reading Classes

Reading Mastery

Reading Mastery (K- to grade 5)

Reading Mastery teaches children initial word attack skills, using a very unorthodox, special orthography approach. In fact, students are not taught letter-sound correspondence up until later lessons in the program, when they have already become quite fluent readers. Why is that? Is it not supposed to confuse the young reader? It happens that if a parent is already looking into a different learning approach to reading, the child might already be confused. While some children will learn to read painlessly and effortlessly using a whole word approach, some others might need an extra push.

After a decade of teaching children how to break through the reading code successfully, our team is sure to say that this is the best reading method ever.

During our initial assessment, we share with the parents the objective and the approach of this reading program.

Corrective Reading

Corrective Reading (grades 3 and up)

RWT is located in Vaughan, Ontario and is ready to serve the needs of a child in an older grade who is not a fluent reader yet. They might enjoy being read to, but have never truly learned the foundations of reading. They might be facing some inner obstacles, such as a specific learning disability, or they may be drowning because they were never exposed to great instruction.

Many children who have been through levels B1, B2 and C of the Corrective Reading program find reading easy and enjoyable. Unlike many other approaches, Corrective Reading is a part of the Direct Instruction method and backed up by  decades of research.

Our tutors have taught Corrective Readings to hundreds of students successfully, helping them overcome the fear of reading.

Corrective Comprehension

Corrective Comprehension (grades 3 and up)

Some children are fluent oral readers. They read without a flinch, often surpassing their peers in the level of reading difficulty. Yet, they have trouble answering seemingly easy questions. In fact, they might not understand much of what they read.

Designed for students with a language learning disability, autism, and ELL learners, Corrective Comprehension teaches children (and adults) to connect the dots. Each lesson presents only 15% of new material and allows repetition until full mastery of the concepts. Children are taught both abstract and practical concepts. Grasp is ensured through mastery tests of the material.

Skills Assessment

Take advantage of our free academic skills assessment that we offer for every student. The goal of the assessment is to help us determine your child’s current academic level. After that, we offer placement into the right program to meet your child’s individual learning needs.
