Our family is so thankful that we found Read Write Think. Our son has been attending since September 2023 and we couldn’t be happier. From day one Julia and Yulia made us feel welcomed, heard and understood. The unwavering kindness and understanding they have extended to us as a family has been phenomenal.RWT is not only an amazing school, it is a team of passionate humans who make it important to involve parents in the process of helping children reach their full potential! They get that learning is not a one size fits all experience. The flexibility, adaptability and on-going support RWT has shown us speaks loudly of their commitment to “meeting children where they are at” as being a top priority! The teacher our son was matched with is beyond amazing! She has positively changed his life both academically and with respect to helping him gain back his self confidence after a tough year elsewhere. The positive impact she has had on him is a living example of the Gordon Neufeld quote: “Children learn best when they like their teacher and they think their teacher likes them”. We couldn’t be more thankful for this special relationship! Our son looks forward to going to school each day and leaves with a smile on his face - nothing could make us happier!Thank you RWT for everything you have done for us!MJ

We worked 1:1 with a tutor from read, write and think. They paired my child up with a great match. They worked on the direct instruction program starting to bridge gaps that my child had. I would highly recommend using them if your child needs extra help. My only regret is not starting with them sooner.

I am a retired kindergarten teacher who believes in the importance of a solid learning experience in grade one so when we withdrew our grandson from the public system because of a disruptive classroom and peer bullying we felt defeated. It was the best thing that we could have done. From the minute I spoke to Julia I had hope that we were going to get help, but after only 8 lessons our grandson is a changed child. He has never experienced the joy of learning and today he needed to share his success with printing with everyone. He is no longer an angry, frustrated little boy, but in a few short weeks he is a happy, confident student who is learning to believe in himself. Thank you does not express my gratitude to Read, Write, Think.Nana

I am so happy we found this Learning Centre! When the pandemic started - my husband and I decided our daughter would be having one-on-one online tutoring this year and it was the best decision we've ever made! We have such an amazing teacher from this centre - Stephanie! My daughter loves her! My daughter progressed dramatically in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Math, Science! Before we came to this centre - my daughter didn't like reading at all and almost couldn't read. Now she easily reads books in English and says Reading is her favourite thing now! The quality of teaching is on the highest level! I love teacher's personal/individual approach to my child! They have such interactive, engaging, interesting classes! My daughter is so sad that Summer Break has begun and she will not see her teacher for the whole summer! She can not wait for September to come - to resume classes with her favourite teacher!

I was referred to Read Write Think by an ABA practitioner, who worked with my child. I was looking specifically for Reading tutor, and supplementation in Math and Language. My child finished finished Gr.5 not reading (at all). I see huge progress now, after just 5-6 month with Read Write Think, my child already started to read, which is really a big milestone for us.I can’t really speak high enough about this company, as what they do is truly outstanding! Our tutor Patricia is very gentle, patient and highly skilled. My child is not always cooperative, but she found a way to work with him almost from the day 1. Any feedback and suggestions, that I may have, are immediately taken and applied in the lessons. We have both, home and center-based sessions, and my child really enjoys participating in both!Highly recommend Read Write Think services!

My 9-year-old daughter has participated in both camp programs run by Read. Write. Think. as well as a Learning Pod program to supplement her virtual elementary school curriculum. I can’t speak highly enough about how great the teachers are and what a comfortable and engaging learning environment they create for kids. Emma really enjoyed the program and looked forward to going to lessons every time. She enjoyed all subjects, including Math, English, French and Social Studies and learned so much. If you’re looking to enhance and support your kids’ school education, this is the place for you! Highly recommend!!

We were recommended Read Write Think learning Center by a friend of ours who has her kids in the center. We were looking for professional home schooling/tutoring help for our 14 year old son. When pandemic started and kids were sent home, he got very discouraged and demotivated with his school work. Realizing that the school situation would not be resolved for a long time, I went to seek help.Yuliana and I had a meeting and talked about our needs to establish the right support for our son. I am so grateful to have met her, she is so knowledgeable and experienced and compassionate. She heard my frustration and understood what we issues we are facing. She coached me on how to get started and we began our journey at Read Write Think Center. We have now been with the Center for two full terms. We are getting exactly the kind of unique and personal support my son needs. Finally, as I parent, I found comfort in fact that I am not alone in this, and there are outstanding and caring professionals like Yuliana, who care about my son and his progress as much as I do.We are super grateful for the hard work everyone does to keep us going and would recommend Yuliana and her team without a slight hesitation.

If you are looking for a personalized approach from the owner and each one of the teachers, this is the place that provides it. In addition to high level instructions including effective methodologies, the students get materials adjusted to their own progress on a weekly basis. I was impressed with the level of the feedback to the parents that allows to achieve great results in a short period of time. Very flexible to accomodate schedule changes, very experienced and friendly teachers. One pace for a variety of learning subjects. Highly recommended!

Direct Instruction method

Direct Instruction (DI) is a defined, free of misinterpretation, teacher-led method based on clear key principles. It is believed that every child can learn and improve academically at their own pace when presented with best teaching and materials. In other words, DI proves that students, if properly taught, can learn. Supported by decades of research, this method of teaching reading, writing, spelling and math has demonstrated to deliver results superior to other methods of instruction. All DI programs have been revised and field tested prior to publishing. In other words, the programs our students receive have already proven to work.

Originally developed by Siegfried Engelmann, the program underwent rigorous testing, having demonstrated its superiority to other intervention programs. Since then, the programs have been in wide use in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.

Our Direct Instruction programs are typically implemented 1-on-1. Your child’s tutor ensures mastery of the concept and only moves forward if full grasp of material is achieved. Our students make best progress if this kind of intervention is used.

Direct instruction method

What is Direct Instruction?

Direct Instruction is a powerful intervention tool. It is based on the notion that clearly cut out lessons, free of misrepresentation of material, can greatly improve student success.

Tutors deliver lessons in carefully planned increments. Students are only moving forward if full mastery of material is achieved.

DI graduates have consistently been able to catch up or surpass their peers.

Reading

Our younger students learn phonics and early reading skills. Lessons are based on sounds presentation and followed by students’ independent reading. Remedial reading and comprehension for struggling older readers.

Writing

Move from constructing a basic sentence to writing a full paragraph. Extend the skills to writing a multi-paragraph story. Learn about persuasive, narrative, descriptive and expository writing. Arguments and position papers.

Language

Learn the basic vocabulary, concepts and sentence forms used in a typical classroom through highly systematic and explicit programs. Lessons focus around word knowledge, common information, classification and problem solving.

Spelling

Become a proficient speller through learning about roots, prefixes, suffixes and base words. Use the skill of memorization and letter-sound correspondence while evolving into an expert speller.

Math

Understand, practise, reach mastery and accelerate. Using these principles, our students strengthen their math and logic skills. They become able to transfer the skills beyond the math curriculum and apply them into real life.

FAQ

What is your overall approach for test readiness?

We make sure students are academically ready for test taking and combine test taking skills with enhancing general knowledge. We offer timed mock tests, along with hints and prompts for better outcomes.

I have great academic skills. Do I need to take test prep?

Even students with an overall advanced academic performance need skills and techniques to be test ready. We work on every skill required assessed by the test and offer mock testing all the way throughout the program.

How do you align the programs with my child’s needs?

When we put together a program, we keep your child’s learning profile in mind. We have years of expertise to help you find your best program for each subject.

How do you determine the approach my child needs?

Struggling students benefit from 1-on-1 learning with a Direct Instruction tutor and traditional learners could be placed in a small group. Some students choose to be only guided by an educational specialist and to learn with a parent.

Do you offer homeschooling groups and courses?

Your homeschooler is welcome to join any program we have. You could choose to sign up for group or 1-to-1 classes, depending on your child’s needs and your flexibility.

How often are academic camp courses offered?

Each block of learning lasts four full weeks,  July and August. Those lengthier chunks of learning time allow us to cover more academics in greater depth.

Which topics do you cover in your instruction?

Each class lasts three hours and consists of reading, writing and math. Each student is placed in accordance  with their current level of achievement and not their grade. That approach ensures that each student benefits from the three layers of instruction.

What is the duration of the course?

Each course lasts four full weeks, five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 9:30 am till 12:30 pm.

I have an upcoming parent-teacher interview night. My child has been identified with some learning challenges and IPRC process is on its way. How could you help?

We can accompany you to the meeting and help you advocate for your child. Communication between all parties involved cannot be overestimated in helping your child succeed.

My child has a psycho-educational assessment and there is an IEP in place at his or her school. Should I bring it to the assessment?

Definitely. Any information you have about your child will help us put a proper learning plan in place. Additionally, it will help us save time in getting to know your child’s strengths and needs.

How do you determine my child’s placement into a specific program?

We will meet with your child for an academic assessment aligned with Ontario school expectations. Following that, we will assess which DI program and level is best suited to the student’s current level.

Do you only see children with learning difficulties or gifted children, too?

We work with struggling students, those who need some help in core curriculum, and nourish gifted minds that need some extra challenge.  The difference is in the approach and programming.

I want my child’s school to know that he or she is getting help. How can that happen?

Proper communication between school and tutors is essential. Our learning specialists write on-going progress reports that we encourage you to share with your child’s teachers. If a parent wishes, regular communication between your child’s teacher and our learning specialist could be established. In most cases it is crucial in developing and implementing a learning plan that will help your child progress at school.

My child has a psycho-educational assessment and there is an IEP in place at his or her school. Should I bring it to the assessment?

Definitely. Any information you have about your child will help us put a proper learning plan in place. Additionally, it will help us save time in getting to know your child’s strengths and needs.
